Mackie introduces new audio products
Mackie is known worldwide as a leading developer and marketer of high-quality, affordable professional audio systems. They've just announced several new products, coming soon to Dolphin Music.
The 24-channel 2404-VLZ3 and 32-channel 3204-VLZ3 are two new mid-format analog consoles, each featuring dual internal FX processors, dedicated compression and 4-track recording via USB, Mackie VLZ3 4-Bus Premium FX Mixers with USB deliver proven, professional sound quality and performance in an ultra-compact and rugged design with the channel count needed for SR applications.
“VLZ is synonymous with high-headroom and low-noise,” remarked John Boudreau, music gear group VP, LOUD Technologies Inc. “We are psyched to bring VLZ3 performance to mixers with higher channel count and real-world live sound tools like effects processing, channel compression and USB connectivity.”
The Mackie 2404-VLZ3 and 3204-VLZ3 feature low-noise, high-headroom XDR2™ mic channels (20 and 28, respectively) and two dedicated channels for stereo inputs. Inline compression is available on each of the four subgroups and on four select channels. Dual 32-bit RMFX™ effects processors offer 16 extremely useable presets, including tap delay. The integrated 4x2 USB interface offers multiple routing options to a DAW, with a convenient stereo return that’s assignable to the mains for background music or into a channel strip for mix integration. With the smallest footprint in their class and legendary Mackie rugged design, VLZ3 4-Bus mixers are perfect for often cramped FOH areas or portable applications.
“Mackie has always been about professional features and performance at prices that are within the reach of the working musician. The new VLZ3 4-Bus mixers are a perfect example of this philosophy in action,” concluded Boudreau.
New Arrayable Powered Loudspeaker
Another exciting release is the groundbreaking new edition to its popular HD Series — the Mackie HDA High-Definition Arrayable Powered Loudspeaker. In partnership with the undisputed line array geniuses at EAW, Mackie has created a compact line array that is professional, powerful and extremely flexible. Each HDA module delivers 1200W of power and up to four HDAs can be used per side, creating a line array that can handle anything from mid-size houses of worship to large clubs in a design that is more cost-effective than ever possible before.
“Mackie is well known for bringing high end pro audio technology into the hands, and budgets, of customers who would otherwise not be able to bridge the monetary gap,” said Ben Olswang, Mackie brand product manager. “Our partnerships allow us to integrate technology that is simply not possible for other companies.”
Each HDA module delivers 1200W of peak system power and houses an EAW designed 12½ LF driver and dual Beyma® 1.7½ HF compression drivers, mounted into a multi-cell horn. HDA incorporates Mackie’s high-definition digital processing, which corrects inherent sonic issues that arise with all horn-loaded drivers, resulting in unbelievably accurate sound.
Featuring a 100x20 coverage pattern and integrated rigging hardware that allows for up to four HDAs and two Mackie HD1801 Powered Subwoofers per side, a fully-realized HDA rig can easily handle large audiences with the consistent, predictable coverage that only a line array can offer. A three-position voicing switch provides easy set up of larger rigs and up to two modules can be pole-mounted directly above a subwoofer, for the ultimate high-output portable PA system.
“The scalability of the system makes it the perfect choice for a very wide range of customers, including contractors and rental houses,” added Olswang. “HDA delivers proven technology and performance in a more compact system that’s perfect for smaller applications or budget conscious installs."
Ultra-compact 2-way powered loudspeaker
Another addition to Mackie's highly successful HD Series is the HD1221 High-Definition Powered Loudspeaker. Built upon the same innovative design as its larger counterparts, the HD1221 delivers 1200W of peak system power via ultra-efficient Class-D amplifier technology. With integrated Mackie active electronics and the implementation of Mackie’s patented high-definition digital processing, the HD1221 offers amazing performance and power for such a small loudspeaker. Its asymmetrical design also makes it an ideal stage monitor.
“We designed the HD1221 to give our customers Mackie’s premium high-definition, high-output sound in a lightweight, ultra-portable and versatile package,” said Ben Olswang, Mackie brand product manager. “A compact loudspeaker has never performed better.”
With custom transducer design and system tuning by the high-end touring experts by EAW, the HD1221 delivers stunning sonic results. The 12½ neodymium woofer is perfectly matched with the 1.75″ heat-treated titanium compression driver that is fitted into a custom-designed, user-rotatable 90x50 horn by Martin Audio.
Three user-selectable voicing modes allow the user to easily adjust the speaker’s tone for the application at hand. The rugged all-wood cabinet is pole-mountable, stackable, flyable and delivers the perfect angle for use as a stage monitor.
“Just pair it with the HD1501 powered subwoofer for the ultimate portable HD rig,” added Olswang. “...that system couldn’t be easier to set up and the sound quality is simply amazing.”
Modern Live Sound Solution
Finally, the last of Mackie’s new releases is the Onyx 1640i - the ideal mixer to use with Wave’s powerful new MultiRack live plug-in platform.
The Onyx 1640i features a built-in 16x16 FireWire interface, providing optimum integration with MultiRack by allowing each and every channel to host its own suite of in-line plug-ins.
“The number one reason that people make the jump to compact digital consoles is the additional DSP,” remarked Mackie product manager, James Woodburn. “The potent combination of Onyx-i and MultiRack delivers the ultimate in performance, combining all the benefits of a hands-on analog mixer with the proven quality of Waves signal processing.”
WavesLive MultiRack is the first software host that gives FOH and Monitor engineers the power of Waves plug-ins, widely recognized as world class, with performance equal to (or sometimes surpassing) that of the analog hardware equivalent.
