Launchpad is purpose built for triggering and manipulating clips in Live, it also offers a totally new way of controlling Ableton Live’s mixer. Launchpad's buttons can be used to sketch out beats with drum racks, and they can be assigned to other functions in Live using Ableton's 'Learn' mode. Launchpad ships with a dedicated ‘Launchpad edition’ of Ableton Live 8, but can control almost any other music software using Novation's award-winning 'Automap' control software.
The Akai APC40 comes pre-mapped for instant use with Ableton Live software, so if you're new to it, you'll find using the Akai APC40 to be easy to get around on. And if you’re an experienced Ableton Live user, you'll be happy to note that you can custom-map every single knob, button, and fader on the Akai APC40 to completely customize the controls for the way you like to work. The Akai APC40 has two banks of eight knobs. The first set controls Global parameters so you’ll always have instant access to your main sends, pans, and other essentials. The second bank of eight knobs is dynamically reassigned to the Track you select. You can control eight track parameters at a time, and as you switch channels, the Track knobs follow your focus.
