Cajons

Meinl Cajons

CajonA cajón is a kind of box drum played by slapping the front face (generally thin plywood) with the hands. The cajón is the most widely used Afro-Peruvian musical instrument in the 20th century.

The instrument is common in musical performance throughout the Americas, especially Cuba. In Cuba, the cajón is associated with the Afro-Cuban drum/song/dance style known as rumba, while in Peru it is associated with several Afro-Peruvian genres.

Meinl Cajons deliver the classic cajon sound at affordable prices and can be used in Flamenco or World Music. Cajons are also very useful during unplugged gigs for delivering the rhythmic foundation for a whole band when a full drum set can’t be used.

Congas

Meinl Congas

Meinl CongasThe conga is a tall, narrow, single-headed Cuban drum with African antecedents. It is thought to be derived from the Makuta drums or similar drums associated with Afro-Cubans of Central African descent. A person who plays conga is called a "conguero".

Congas are used both in Afro-Caribbean religious music and as the principal instrument in Rumba. Congas are now very common in Latin music, including salsa music, merengue music, Reggaeton, as well as many other forms of American popular music. In other words...Congas = party!

Meinl Congas have superb projection, warm tones, light weight and professional  features, offering outstanding quality and great value for money.

Bongos

Meinl Bongos

Meinl BongosBongos are a Cuban percussion instrument consisting of a pair of single-headed, open-ended drums attached to each other. The drums are of different size: the larger drum is called in Spanish the hembra (female) and the smaller the macho (male). It is most often played by hand.

Bongo drums produce relatively high-pitched sounds, and should be held between the knees with the larger drum on the right when right-handed. They are traditionally played by striking the drumheads with the fingers and palms, although some contemporary compositions require drum sticks.

Meinl Bongos are an excellent choice for students, beginners and even pros, at prices that are hard to resist!
