New Mastering Software Offered Free to DV-RA1000 Owners

Published: Mon October 17, 2005  News Feed

TASCAM, in conjunction with Minnetonka Audio Software, is introducing an exclusive version of Discwelder software. This new software, available for free to all registered DV-RA1000 owners, adds three audio mastering features to professional studios looking to do more with their high-resolution recordings.

The first feature is conversion from Direct Stream Digital audio to a PCM WAVE fi le which can be imported into any Digital Audio Workstation software. Since the DV-RA1000 is the first audio recorder under £10,000 to record DSD audio, it caught much of the recording industry by surprise. Now that DSD recording is available to any studio, recording engineers are clamoring for a way to use these audio recordings in their computer studios. At the time of this writing, the only DAW platforms that support the DSDIFF fi le format are exclusive mastering systems from companies like Sony, Pyramix, Genex and Sadie. But the new software bundle will allow DV-RA1000 users to convert their DSD fi les to WAVE fi les at any resolution for use in DAWs like ProTools, Cubase, Nuendo, Logic, Sonar and others.

Also included in the software is the ability to create a DVD disc that will play on any DVD player. A hybrid disc is created with two volumes on the disc. One section of the disc is a DVD-Audio disc, which allows the user to create a high-resolution disc that will play up to 192kHz/24-bit audio in stereo. The second section of the disc shows up on standard DVD-Video players. So this software converts the audio fi les on the DVRA1000 to a format that will play on any of the millions of DVD players in homes, studios and cars in the world.

The DV-RA1000 is a high-resolution master recorder that records to CD or DVD+RW discs. Using DVD discs, the DV-RA1000 can record over five hours at better than CD quality, or it can record at 192kHz/24-bit resolution or DSD, which is the audio format developed by Sony for SuperAudio CDs. Sterling Sound (sterlingsound. com), one of the industry’s premiere mastering facilities, recently began recommending the DV-RA1000 for delivery of materials to be released on Super Audio CD.
