Musikmesse ‘09 ends on a high note
30th year sees increased numbers and positive feedback from the MI sector

The final numbers for this year’s Musikmesse shows positive growth, as 111,000 from 125 countries visited the show, a one-percent increase from 2008.
Messe Frankfurt board member, Detlef Braun commented: “This year’s edition of Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound could not have been better, as shown by the large number of exhibitors (1,560 at the Musikmesse and 850 at Prolight + Sound), the high level of satisfaction with the results of business at the fair among both exhibitors and visitors, and the overwhelming visitor echo.
“Once again, the two events have underscored their status as the world’s leading trade fairs for their sectors.”
The 30th Musikmesse and 15th Prolight + Sound saw an increase of roughly 1,300 trade visitors compared to last years numbers, 109,777. This number was bolstered by an increase of German attendance of 3.8 percent or 2,700 visitors while international visitors fell by full by about 3.5 percent from 2008. The most represented visitor nations after Germany were The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Italy, Austria, Great Britain, Poland, Sweden, Spain and the Czech Republic. The most non-European visitors came from the USA, South Korea, the People’s Republic of China and Japan.

“This is very impressive evidence of the increasing interest in music making and the growing demand for event technology in Germany. It also shows, however, that the foreign markets are more affected by the bleak business climate at present”, said Braun. “The exhibitors underscored this view with their assessment of the individual markets, which was not as positive as in the previous year when 90 percent foreign exhibitors and visitors to Prolight + Sound said the economic situation was satisfactory to good. This year, just fewer than 75 percent were of this opinion.
Braun stated that, although some of in Prolight + Sound sector are feeling the strain of the financial climate, the MI industry seems to be bucking the trend with 81 per cent of both exhibitors and trade visitors rating the sector as "good".
"In this connection, expectations in the sector are oriented, in particular, towards new products and a stable level of demand over the coming months: “Many dealers have told us that the springtime awakening of the musical-instrument sector at the Musikmesse will motivate the sector and ensure good business until well into the autumn business season”, added Braun.
