Musikmesse Frankfurt : Shure launches five new mic products
PG series mics and X2U adapter bring professional quality to the recording enthusiast
Shure Distribution UK (SDUK) today announced the European launch of five new products at the Musikmesse show in Frankfurt: the PG27USB and PG42USB side-address condenser microphones, XLR versions of the PG27 and PG42 microphones and the X2U XLR-to-USB adaptor.
The PG27USB and PG42USB microphones connect professional standard Shure microphones to any USB computer port with ‘plug and play’, meaning digital recording can be completed anywhere with a PC or laptop. Ideal for multi-track recording, the cardioid condenser microphones feature built-in headphone monitoring with zero latency and monitor mix control. This allows users to instantly hear or monitor what they’re recording through headphones and make adjustments on the fly. Both microphones are durable enough for everyday use, yet sophisticated enough for advanced recording.
“We’re seeing an increasing trend for musicians, at all levels, to record and produce music outside traditional settings, be it at home, in their bedroom or on the road” commented Paul Crognale, marketng manager at SDUK. “These new microphones bring a professional standard recording experience to all users.”
The key difference between the PG27, PG27USB, PG42 and PG42USB microphones is the application they are designed for.
The PG27 and PG27USB feature a flat, neutral frequency response for natural reproduction of a wide variety of instrument and vocal sound sources, whereas the PG42 and PG42USB have been specifically engineered to reproduce the subtle nuances of lead vocals. The large diaphragm allows for higher sensitivity to clearly reproduce refined performances. The low-cut filter and external shock-mount provide further clarity to vocal reproduction.
The Shure X2U Adapter is a modular accessory that connects any XLR microphone (the standard electrical connector for microphones) to a PC or laptop to create better-than-CD quality recordings. The X2U is styled to complement the iconic design of Shure’s SM57 and SM58 microphones and can be used for live and studio recording.
“Shure’s audio equipment has always set the standard for the industry and the advent of the digital age has seen a huge surge in the number of PC users actively creating and recording sound,” added Crognale. “With the new microphones and adaptor, we’re looking to bridge the gap between the two, giving keen recreational recorders access to professional standard audio equipment.”
