The amps, a reissue of the 2100 Lead and Bass 50, come packaged with a certificate signed by Dr Jim Marshall and Weller. Portions of the profits will go to the Childline charity.

To commemorate Paul Weller’s 50th birthday and his long association with Marshall, the British amp manufacturer has created the 1987X-PW, a faithful tonal re-issue of his beloved 2100 Lead and Bass 50 combo.

The 1987X-PW has been constructed by hand at the Marshall factory in Bletchley to the company’s highest custom standards. With a hand-welded chassis loaded with vintage Marshall character, this limited special edition (only 50 will be made) valve powered amp is a must for all the tone purists out there. The completed combos are finished in a vintage, off-white levant and baffle, which itself has been given the quintessential ‘Modfather’ treatment.

As one of the most respected and influential singer-songwriters of recent times, Weller has achieved an enviable legacy. From his days in The Jam and Style Council and throughout his hugely successful solo career, he has consistently proven his ability to pen, record and perform some of the most refined and down-right catchy songs of the past thirty years. His affect on the British music scene is substantial, with bands such as Oasis and Ocean Colour Scene citing him as a major influence on their own work.
While his songwriting style is undeniably distinctive, his guitar technique and tone are equally as unique.

For the past decade Paul has been plugging into a rare Marshall 2100 Lead and Bass 50, circa 1976. These now highly sought-after 50-Watt combos were only produced in small numbers over a three year period from 1973 to 1976.

Consisting of one Lead and one Bass channel, these valve-driven amps deliver a natural overdriven tone, achieved by simply ‘cranking ‘em up’ (as Marshall puts it). The sustain and bite found favour among the emerging guitarists of the time and to this day the sound is highly prized.

All-in-all, the 1987X-PW exudes raw vintage Marshall tone and style. A special product completion certificate, signed by both Jim Marshall and Paul Weller, is also included as an added bonus.

With every 1987X-PW sold, Marshall will make a sizable donation to the Childline charity, which provides help and support to children in need and is a vital service that relies heavily on private donations to operate. Marshall has told MI Pro that it is with great pleasure that the manufacturer and Paul Weller, through the creation of the 1987X-PW, have agreed to support a charity that has such a positive effect on those who turn to it.
