Customer Spotlight: Paul Bell, Singer-Songwriter
Singer/Songwriter Paul Bell was the winner of our Fender Jaguar HH competition last year, so we're pleased to hear back from him. He's releasing a free download single to mark Marriage Week UK.
“We are making a love to last a lifetime… I don’t mind if it takes a little time”.Singer-songwriter Paul Bell has made “What I call romance” available to download on his website for a limited time to coincide with Marriage Week UK.
A live favourite, it covers some of the aspects of relationships that don’t often make it into a love song. There aren’t many love songs that include the phrases “make you porridge”, “peel the spuds” or “I’ll use the appropriate board for chopping”, but this is a song that deals with the little things which, in a marriage, can be just as important as the grand romantic gesture.
“What I call romance” is a song that never fails to raise a smile of recognition from married members of crowds at recent gigs. Paul was wondering what the secret is to a lasting marriage, so he asked his friends, Dave and Rosemary (now approaching 50 years together). Turns out he makes her porridge every morning.
He doesn’t even like porridge that much. “Turns out she doesn’t like porridge that much either, but she was too polite to say anything…” jokes Paul. That set the ball rolling, and the rest of the song followed on from there.
The final verse makes it clear that the song is about a marriage relationship, so Paul decided to make it available as a free download during Marriage Week UK 2009. It will remain available for a limited time only. "This song is just so true", says Dave Percival, coordinator for Marriage Week UK. "It's constant attention to the little things in a marriage that make it great - that's what the song, and the week celebrate! I guess they go together like - well, like a husband and wife!"
The single is taken from Paul’s forthcoming live album “Name in Lights”, which was recorded in November 2008. The album features songs about everything from global warming to biscuits, and is due for release in February 2009.
