HANK SHOCKLEE NOMINATED FOR GRAMMY AWARD
TL Audio Ebony A2 and Fat Track user Hank Shocklee has been nominated for a Grammy® in the category of Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or other Visual Media for his work on the American Gangster original motion picture soundtrack.
The Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment film teams Oscar® winners Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe to tell the true story of criminal mastermind Frank Lucas, who came up from the streets of New York in the ’70s. It was produced by Academy Award®-winning producer Brian Grazer and directed and produced by Ridley Scott.
Hank Shocklee, who was extensively involved with the project, wrote and produced new songs for the film and soundtrack including the title song by Grammy-nominated platinum artist Anthony Hamilton “Do You Feel Me” which was composed by megaplatinum Grammy-winning and Oscar®-nominated songwriter Diane Warren.
“Do You Feel Me” along with other original compositions you hear in the film are featured on the American Gangster original motion picture soundtrack album via Island Def Jam. Shocklee says, “Ridley Scott wanted someone to bring an authentic sound to the film and create music with a retro late 1960’s to mid 1970’s feel to it. I loved working on this project because it allowed me to go in the studio and imagine a period in time that was the very beginnings of hip hop, where blues, soul, funk, latin and afro-beat all started to mesh together and inspired the sounds of the hip hop generation on the streets of New York”.
Hank Shocklee, who is best known for his innovative & unique production style and for founding the group Public Enemy is behind some of the most significant music and film projects of the last two decades. Also a veteran industry executive, the former Universal Records Senior Vice President now serves as President for Shocklee Entertainment. Currently he is preparing for his new project Bomb Squad alongside his brother Keith Shocklee which will be released in 2009.
