Issue 27 of Music Tech Magazine

Published: Sun June 05, 2005  News Feed

Issue 27 of Music Tech Magazine is out now in newsagents throughout the UK.

Hello and welcome to another Music Tech newsletter.

Scott Hoffman, aka Babydaddy from multi-platinum-selling US band Scissor Sisters, has taken time-out from the band\'s busy schedule to talk to MTM. In the interview, Scott describes the debut album\'s birth in a small project studio in his Brooklyn, NY apartment.

With so many high-quality, low-price microphones available today, what is it that makes many engineers drool over classic mics such as the Neumann U47, decades after they were made? Huw Price reveals the pitfalls and privileges of owning a vintage gem.

Also in this issue is the second part of Mark Cousins\' feature on Recording an Epic Soundtrack. This month, he follows up his trip to record the City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra with a session recording the 110-piece Brighton Festival Chorus and mixes the tracks.

Logic Pro 7, Sonar 4, Cubase SX/SL3, Reason 3.0 and Pro Tools 6 LE are all covered in Issue 27\'s software workshops, while arranging a rhythm section and manipulating pitch and time are covered in our Ten Minute Masters. In a short feature on music education, Mike Hillier takes a look at how technology is being used to aid music teachers in the classroom.

Reviews-wise, 23 products have been put through their paces, including exclusive looks at Tannoy\'s superb new Reveal 8D active monitors and M-Audio\'s Black Box guitar effects recording interface; plus the outstanding new Kontakt 2 sampler from Native Instruments, Violet\'s new Amethyst Vintage microphone and Project5 v2.

And our coverdisc this month is a cracking collection of software and samples. Zero-G has provided a great collection of loops from its recently released Dance Pack, Pro Pack and World Pack collections. Analogue Monsters retro SE2 synth samples are also on offer. Plus you\'ll get a selection of MIDI beats from Groove Monkee\'s Electronic collection, and the chance to colour your tracks with Nomad Factory\'s Phaser, Auto-Filter and Tremelo effects.

Finally, we are conducting a Reader Survey this month. Participation automatically enters you in a competition to win a heap of great E-mu studio gear. If you\'d like to help us make MTM more how you\'d like it to be, browse to http://www.musictechmag.co.uk/survey and fill it in!

Best get yourself down to your newsagent right now to grab yourself a copy.

Enjoy the issue!
All the best.
