Apple Voluntarily Recalling Batteries Used In Some iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 Computers

Published: Mon May 23, 2005  News Feed

Apple is voluntarily recalling certain rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that were sold worldwide, in systems and separately, from October 2004 through May 2005 for use with the 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4, and 15-inch PowerBook G4. The affected batteries could overheat, posing a fire hazard.

Apple has initiated a worldwide exchange program and will provide eligible customers with a new replacement battery free of charge. If a customer contacts Apple concerning a battery eligible for this program, urge the customer to stop using the affected battery and immediately order a replacement via the iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 Battery Exchange Program website http://www.apple.com/support/batteryexchange

Full details on the iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 Battery Exchange Program are available in the following documents. DO NOT vary from the information available in these documents when answering customer questions about this program. Apple maintains a ZERO TOLERANCE policy when it comes to deviating from the letter of these documents.
