Tips and Tricks - Customizing your DM5 Pro Kit
Customize your DM5 Pro Kit with a change of heads and SURGE Cymbals.
Q: Is it possible to change the drumheads on my DM5 Pro Kit?
A: It's as easy as changing the head of any acoustic drum. You can use nearly any type of drumhead from any manufacturer – clear or coated, smooth white, or black. We do recommend single-ply heads for best results, as double-ply heads and those with dots can reduce the sensitivity of the pads.
To change heads, simply use a drum key to loosen the tension rods around each head. Work in a criss-cross pattern until all of the tension rods are free. Lift the counterhoop and drumhead off the pad. Clean away any debris or dust that have accumulated and place a new head where the old one was. Fit the counterhoop on top and tighten all of the tension rods with your fingers.
Do not strike the head with a stick until it is evenly tensioned or you could damage the pad's electronics. Once the tension rods are all finger-tight, begin tightening the rods using the drumkey in a criss-cross pattern, turning each one two full revolutions each. Continue bringing the tension on the head up evenly until the head is the tension you like.
Q: Can I upgrade my DM5 Pro Kit with the new Alesis SURGE Cymbals?
