About Barry Jackson:
Barry started playing the flute at a very early age being taught for six years by Timothy Swainson, at his school Little Moss for Boys, Droylsden, Manchester. He was a highly regarded member of the school band.
Barry trained at Manchester School of Music & Salford College. He also attended as many flute workshops as he could get to, to pick up tips from the Masters John Pierre Rampall, Marcel Moyse and Sir James Galway. All this has had a major influence on Barry and has given him his unique playing style. He then went on to the gruelling Northern Club Circuit, followed by a time touring Europe.
He plays and teaches different kinds of flute, piccolo, ethnic flutes, fifes and whistles, and is currently working on his own compositions. Barry has a keen interest in facilitating, inspirational playing drawing on his knowledge of ethnic styles of playing and the French style of flute playing.
Although specialising in Classical, Barry is equally at home with many styles or genres of music and is easily able to cross between Blues, Country, Folk Jazz, Meditative, Popular, Renaissance, Rock & Roll, Show and Soul.
