Issue 23 of Music Tech Magazine
Happy New Year! and welcome again to another Music Tech Magazine newsletter. While many of you were enjoying a well-deserved break, we\'ve produced yet another issue brimming with features, tutorials and reviews! oh, and an excellent version of IK Multimedia\'s Amplitube Uno on the covermount CD.
Every budding musician or sound engineer knows that even after perfecting your recording and polishing your mix, the mastering stage has a huge impact on how your music compares with professionally produced tracks. To help you get to grips with this daunting stage of the production process, lecturer and composer Danny Lewis has written an excellent in-depth guide to mastering, covering each of the main steps in turn: compression, EQ and limiting. If you want your recordings to sound like a pro\'s, this is the first place to turn to.
Issue 23 also sees the next instalments of two popular features: Huw Price\'s advanced guide to recording guitar, and Mark Cousin\'s software orchestra. This time, Huw turns his attention to the acoustic guitar, offering advice on what is a notoriously difficult instrument to record accurately. The second part of our Software Orchestra feature looks at what you can do with the samples collection you\'ve carefully amassed.
Our tutorial section has swelled this month, with tutorials on audio restoration in Cubase SX/SL2, Logic Pro 7\'s sparkly new instrument Sculpture, the Matrix Pattern Sequencer in Reason 2.5 and composing with MIDI using Sonar 3/4. On top of all this, we still found space to include Ten Minute Masters on both analogue tape recording and delay, and our Back Track feature this month discusses Basement Jaxx\'s Right Here\'s The Spot.
Our reviewers have been working hard over the holiday season, too, bringing you reviews of Focusrite\'s ground-breaking Liquid Channel, Apple\'s gorgeous new iMac G5, the Novation X-Station, Waves IR-1 and the Ultra Analog VA-1 to name only a few.
On the covermount CD, in addition to Amplitube Uno you\'ll also find demos of USB\'s Charlie, ValveTone \'62, iZoTope Ozone, Trash and Vinyl, Ultra Analog VA-1, MIDI files by Groove Monkee and three multitrack drum parts recorded by legendary drummers including Roots Radics and Dub Syndicate drummer Style Scott.
All the best, and I hope you enjoy the issue.
