Liverpool Echo Feature On Dolphin Music!
From The Liverpool Echo (Thursday 17th Januray 2008):
JUST two weeks remain to enter the final year of the ECHO’s Kickstart awards, in partnership with Merseyside Special Investment Fund.
The five-year scheme to create 2,008 new jobs by 2008 through encouraging entrepreneurs and expansion of existing small firms reaches its finale on January 31.
Judging takes place next month and the winner of a £10,000 cash prize and up to £10,000 worth of free consultancy* will be announced in March.
Entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson, easyJet founder Stelios Haji Ioannou and former Prime Minister Tony Blair have all backed the campaign.
Entries so far cover a variety of sectors.
Rob Williams, co-founder of Liverpool-based music retailer Dolphin Music, said the idea of creating jobs through Kickstart appealed to the firm: “We have 64 staff now, with 35 in Merseyside. And that started from scratch.”
The firm opened its first shop in Liverpool’s Ranelagh Street in May 2006 and now has two more in Huddersfield and Gateshead.
Heading for £10m turnover, Dolphin is extending its reach into education and also targeting Europe.
Mr Williams said if they won the competition the prize money would be spent on staff development.
