Gibson Guitar Town London 2007 - Giant Guitars on Display!

Published: Wed July 04, 2007  News Feed

Gibson Guitar, the world’s premiere musical instrument manufacturer and leader in music technology, is proud to announce that many of the UK’s greatest and best known musicians have pledged their support and involvement with Gibson Guitartown London. Gibson Guitartown London is a unique charity-inspired campaign bringing together the power of music with art to raise money for three chosen charities; The Princes Trust, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and Teenage Cancer Trust.

Music legends such as Paul Weller, Slash, Ronnie Wood, Rod Stewart, Noel Gallagher, Mark Knopfler, Roxy Music, New Order, Bruce Dickinson, Brian May, Gary Moore, Gorillaz, Dirty Pretty Things, The Lost Prophets, James Dean Bradfield, Ocean Colour Scene, Graham Coxon, The Kooks, The Magic Numbers, Ozzy Osbourne, Paul Rodgers, Suggs, KT Tunstall, Razorlight, Hard-Fi, Corinne Bailey Rae, Depeche Mode, James Morrision, Motorhead, Sir Cliff Richard and James Blunt are already confirmed.

Thirty 10-foot free standing fiberglass Gibson Les Paul guitars and 30 regular sized Gibson SG’s are currently being creatively designed and hand painted by visual artists ranging from some of the UK’s leading and established artists such as Sir Peter Blake, Gerald Scarfe and Andrew Logan to competition winners. Each guitar will be signed by the associated musician to authenticate and endorse their own individual guitar.

The thirty 10 foot Gibson Les Paul guitars are being publicly displayed around More London (by Tower Bridge, SE1) since late June and will remain there for ten weeks. Meanwhile, the regular sized hand painted Gibson SG’s will be on public display at The O2 in Greenwich, only a short tube or boat ride from the More London display. Following the exhibition all the guitars will be auctioned off at an event in September with all the proceeds being split equally between the three associated charities.

This free exhibition of creatively painted guitars will appeal to all age groups and music enthusiasts and will contribute to maintaining London’s credentials as one of the world’s greatest capital cities. The original Guitar Town concept and idea originated in Nashville, Tennessee in 2005 and went on to raise over $300,000 for local charities. Gibson Guitar is once again replicating this creative project in London for a spectacular display of artistically designed Gibson Les Paul guitars.
