Gretsch Guitars Now in Stock!

Published: Fri June 29, 2007  News Feed

If Rock'n'Roll could be represented by just three brand names, they would undoubtedly be Fender, Gibson and...Gretsch, of course!

And the great news is: Dolphin Music has several Gretsch models in stock, with more coming soon. If you fancy those fantastic guitars, Dolphin Music is the right place to get them – for great prices!

A Bit of History:

Though not as widely popular as Fender or Gibson, the Gretsch guitars presence in 20th Century music is just as impressive, and of undeniable importance: At the very dawn of Rock'N'Roll music, guitarists such as Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, Eddie Cochran, Bo Diddley, Gene Vincent's guitarist Cliff Gallup and Elvis Presley chose Gretsch guitars, as did many other rockabilly players.

In the 60's, Gretsch was vital in shaping the early sound of The Beatles, as George Harrison played several of their models, such as the Duo Jet and the Chet Atkins Country Gentleman.

Gretsch guitars were slightly forgotten about in the 70's, but interest was resurrected in the 80's thanks to The Stray Cats, and their guitarist Brian Setzer has now his own Gretsch Signature Model, deservedly so! Guitarists of other important bands of the time, such as Jesus And Mary Chain, X, AC/DC and The Cult could all be seen with a Gretsch as well.

Since then, the resurgence of Gretsch guitars has been spectacular: John Squire of The Stone Roses played a Country Gentleman; the Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist, John Frusciante, is often seen playing a vintage 1950s White Falcon at their gigs; U2 lead singer Bono also plays a Gretsch.

Many of the new 21st Century popstars are fans of Gretsch: Joshua Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, Kele Okereke of Bloc Party and Pete Doherty have all been spotted with a Gretsch.

More recently, Jack White of the White Stripes has been playing Gretsch guitars, both in his main band as alongside The Raconteurs. In the music video for the new White Stripes single, "Icky Thump", Jack White can be seen playing a Gretsch White Penguin.

The reason Gretsch guitars are not as popular as Fender or Gibson is quite simple – they are not meant to be! Gretsch today concentrates on high-end guitars that are true works-of-art. Those who can afford one know just how unique and special they are! Vintage looks, and a sound that's great for many different styles, not just rockabilly!
