Glastonbury 2007 - The Artists, the gear!

Published: Tue June 26, 2007  News Feed

Now that we're all clean, mud-free and dry...a look back into the best gear we've seen at Glasto 2007.

Sometimes it's hard to decide who were your favourite artists...but we didn't have dificulty spotting some really cool gear at the festival...which you CAN find on our site, too!

Gibson Melody Maker (Carl Barat, Dirty Pretty Things):

The Gibson Melody Maker is a 1950's Gibson classic. Originally a very affordable, entry-level guitar, it's now a sought after item, recently resurrected by the company. It's been a favourite of Carl Barat since his Libertines days, and it's the cheapest Gibson guitar on the market.

Duesenberg Starplayer TV Vintage White (The Kooks):

One of the hottest new bands in the UK, The Kooks have a great taste when it comes to gear! Apart from using some cool Hiwatt Custom combo amps, they use the Duesenberg Starplayer TV guitar, which is simply stunning. A great, sophisticated guitar not often seem in indie bands...

1950's Gibson ES-125 (Pete Doherty, Babyshambles):

Love or hate him, one thing must be said - Pete Doherty knows how to choose a guitar. At Glasto 2007 he used a rare, discontinued Epiphone Coronet and a Gibson ES-125, a beautiful instrument. This 1950's guitar was originally an entry-level archtop with only one p-90 pickup, like the one Doherty uses, but the later model 1958 Gibson ES-125 comes with two p-90 pickups, adding more versatility.

Fender Bronco (Alex Turner, Arctic Monkeys):

In their first album, the Arctic Monkeys relied mainly on Teles and Strats. But with their new "Favourite Worst Nightmare", they went for the sounds of the Gibson ES-335 and Fender Bronco, as seen at Glastonbury. The cool, simple Bronco was an entry-level guitar, and has been discontinued years ago. It looks exactly like the Fender Mustang, except for having just one pickup.

Reverend Jetstream 390 (Ron Asheton, The Stooges):

The seminal Stooges guitarist could be seen playing the stunning Reverend Jetstream 390 guitar, which is equipped with three p-90 pickups. No wonder the punk veteran opted for this guitar -  the Jetstream 390 quite simply rocks!

Italia Maranello bass (Nicky Wire, Manic Street Preachers):

The glamourous Welsh punk rocker Nicky Wire, self-proclaimed "the best-dressed rockstar",  always knew how to put on a show and look great, so no wonder his favourite bass right now is a Italia Maranello bass. Italia makes stunning guitars, that have all the Retro looks of the most outrageous '60's designs combined with 21st Century build & sound quality.

Mention of Honour: MicroKORG (Brandon Flowers, The Killers):

We don't just look at the guitars, you know...Here's the Korg mini-keyboard  microKorg , an essential part of The Killers sound. Judging by this pic, it also seems to be hooked up to an Ibanez TS-9 Tubescreamer. Cool, or what?
