Steinberg sold to Yamaha
Yamaha has bought Steinberg for $28.5M from Pinnacle System This transaction is expected to close in mid-January, contingent on clearance by German Federal Cartel Office.
Steinberg already has a business relationship with Yamaha through Studio Connections initiative that we announced at Messe this year. Yamaha wishes to keep Steinberg as an independent company and it has no current intention to integrate its operations with Yamaha’s. Yamaha values the existing relationships between Steinberg and its sales partners. Thus, we anticipate no change for immediate purposes in sales relationships, other than the distribution in the United States that will now be handled by Yamaha Corporation of America.
With the acquisition of Steinberg, YAMAHA plans to further promote the Studio Connection initiative and realize seamless technical integration of hardware, such as synthesizers and digital mixers, and software. Another goal of the acquisition is to expand the market by making it easier for both general users and professionals alike to create music in a broad variety of genres.
